January in the Attic

I have a process that I’d like to share with you.

In many ways, I’m my greatest obstacle. I think of a million things I’d like to try. I often get stuck deciding where to start. In an effort to take the choosing out of my hands, I came up with a tool to help keep me on task and out of analysis paralysis

I use a jar that was deemed unsellable because it cracked in the kiln. This is my idea vessel.

I fill out papers that include various styles of mood, medium, colors, and subject matter.

I randomly select from my jar and challenge myself to create something within those parameters. It has proven a very useful tool.

In January, my subject matter was motherhood, colors muted, medium was clay and mood was dark.

This allowed me to see motherhood in a very different light. The framework allowed me to sit with the harder sides of motherhood.

This led to the K2T series which is still in development, but a worthy and therapeutic exercise.

You can see my progress weekdays or on the First Friday Art Walk.
